Doubtful

Ross Stewart - calf

13 March 2025 by Thomas Anderson

Southampton striker Ross Stewart (28) has endured a challenging season due to a calf injury that has kept him sidelined for several months. The Scottish forward sustained the injury during Southampton’s Premier League match against Arsenal on 5 October 2024, where he was forced off the pitch after just 27 minutes. (Source: Sky Sports)

On 5 October, manager Russell Martin confirmed that Stewart had suffered a muscle injury and would require a scan. While no further specifics were provided at the time, Martin admitted he was “gutted” for the player, indicating the severity of the concern. (Source: Alfie House, Daily Echo)

Following the match, Martin revealed that Stewart would miss the next fixture against Leicester City, but described the injury as a short-term issue. “Ross came off [at Arsenal] and won’t be available, but it’s not a long-term injury. It’s a frustrating setback for Ross and disappointing for him and us.” (Source: The Athletic)

However, the recovery process took longer than initially expected. Despite the club’s optimism, Stewart remained out of action for over four months, only making his return with Southampton’s U21 squad on 23 February 2025. He featured in a Friday fixture, gaining valuable match fitness after the lengthy spell on the sidelines. (Source: Daily Echo)

Although Stewart has returned to U21 action, he is still working his way back to full match fitness. However, if his rehabilitation progresses smoothly, Stewart could feature in the final months of the campaign. (Source: BBC Sport)
